I wanted it for the SD card and USB2 connectivity to transfer photos from my camera SD card to a USB passport drive. The card holder jams the card every time I insert it and it is difficult to remove. I have not been able to get it to operate both a SD card and a passport drive together. But it does copy photos from the SD card to a passport drive connected to a different USB port. I can't comment about any other aspect because I have not used it in any other way.
